Wilder elementary library

About the Library

The purpose of the Wilder Library Media Center is to provide a place where students can let their imaginations go wild! We strive to create a space that feels warm and inviting and allows students to be creative and explore the world around them. Our job is to provide students with the tools they need to grow such as a strong collection of reading materials, a wide variety of technology tools, appropriate resources for research, and training on how to be a digital citizen. Our secondary purpose is to assist and collaborate with our teachers by providing resources that support lessons, training on how to use different technology tools, and collaborating on special classroom projects.

Library Policies

The Library Media Center is an integral part of each student’s education here at Wilder Elementary. The library is open Monday – Friday from 7:00 – 2:00. While in the library, students will check out books, listen to stories, practice computer skills and participate in library maker spaces. Throughout the year, students will receive instruction on using the library, using online resources, research skills and digital citizenship.

Check Out Policies

Preschool: Visits the library once a week with their Fifth Grade Reading Buddies.

Kindergarten: Selects one picture book to be checked out to the teacher and read in the classroom.

First Grade: Selects one picture book to be check out and taken home.

Second Grade: Starts out the year checking out one picture book and transitions to two books in January.

Third Grade: Selects two books to check out from anywhere in the library.

Fourth Grade: Selects two books to check out from anywhere in the library.

Fifth Grade: Selects two books to check out from anywhere in the library.

Books are checked out for a period of two weeks and can then be renewed for an additional week if needed. Parents may sign up to check out additional books. Parents are allowed to have up to 5 books checked out at a time. When students and/or parents check out a library book, they are responsible for the care of their books until they have been returned to the library. If a student loses a book or the book is damaged while in his/her care, it must be paid for before another book can be checked out. Lost/damaged books must be paid for at the end of each nine weeks prior to report cards being issued, otherwise report cards will be held in the guidance office.
